Portuguese residence permit for the financially independent
Portugal residency through a D7 Visa is intended for foreigners with passive income. It is often called pension, but the programme is open to all adult applicants if they meet the requirements set out in Article 58 of Law No. 23/2007. This type of residency is favored by digital nomads, entrepreneurs, crypto-traders, and other professionals whose activities are not location-dependent.
To participate in the programme, the main candidate must prove that he/she has a passive income of € 820 or more per month generated outside the country. In order to include a spouse in the application, 50% of the sum or €410 must be added. For each child add 30%, €246 per month. The applicant must also have a dwelling in the country, either owned or rented.
The property must be suitable for use. In other words, programme participants cannot rent a studio apartment to accommodate a family of 5 people.
Conditions for obtaining a D7 visa to Portugal
The main applicant must:
- Be of legal age;
- Have no criminal record;
- Not have citizenship in EU countries;
- Receive passive income coming from another country;
- Own or rent a residential property in the country.
The application may include a spouse with no criminal record, minor children, incompetent children of any age, children under the age of 21, unmarried and unemployed, minor siblings under the primary candidate's care, financially dependent parents.
Documents to obtain a passive income visa in Portugal
The following are required of programme participants:
- Completed application form;
- A passport valid for at least 6 months after the visa expiration date;
- 2 passport-sized photographs;
- Documents confirming the receipt of regular passive income on the main applicant's account;
- Real estate sale and purchase agreement or lease agreement;
- Certificate of no criminal record;
- Valid travel insurance;
- Medical insurance;
- Bank statements for the last six months;
- Tax number obtained in the Republic;
- Tax return for the previous year.
