North Macedonia citizenship by investment programme
The Economic Citizenship Programme is a unique opportunity for foreigners willing to obtain a North Macedonian passport and move to a developing European state without a minimum period of residence and without the need to learn the official language. For those who want to know how to get North Macedonia citizenship, there are at least 2 investment options:
- Investing in a private fund. The minimum investment threshold for this option is €200,000 per adult applicant. The funds must be invested for at least 2 years in a private investment fund established and operating under local law.
- Direct investment in a new business is a unique opportunity to contribute to the local economy. The minimum threshold is €400,000. This option involves investing in new business objects not part of the hospitality sector (restaurants, retail shops, etc.). The investment must create at least 10 permanent jobs for citizens of the Republic, making you a responsible contributor to the local community.
The government developed the 1st option to attract investment in diversified sectors that stimulate the country's economic growth. However, it should be noted that since its introduction in 2021, there has yet to be a single case of a successful application followed by the granting of citizenship.
Only a few applicants have been pre-approved but haven’t yet fulfilled the investment conditions. At the same time, there have been no official announcements that this option is invalid.
All adult foreigners who meet the conditions of North Macedonia citizenship by investment are eligible. Their financially dependent children under 18 can inherit citizenship after one of their parents has been issued a local passport.
