Residence permit for the UK: investment conditions
The residence permit in the UK with the right to work, live, do business, and study in the country is available for foreigners. Persons who are ready to invest significant funds in the economy can count on obtaining a residence permit.
The minimum investment amount is £2 million. These funds can be invested in shares of British companies (except those involved in property and development).
Immediate family members such as the spouse and minor children can be included in the application.
The visa is valid for 3 years and 4 months. It can be extended for 2 years provided the investment is maintained. In addition, the investor and his/her family members can apply for a permanent residence permit in the UK. The period of application for permanent residence depends on the amount of investment:
- £2 million – after 5 years.
- £5 million – after 3 years.
- £10 million – after 2 years.
Citizenship can be obtained after 5–6 years of living in the country.
Who can obtain a residence permit in the UK through investment
To obtain a biometric residence permit in the UK, it is important to consider the following requirements:
- Investor's age: 18 years and above.
- The applicant must not have a criminal record, be under criminal prosecution or have had a visa refusal in countries with which the UK has a visa-free regime.
- Must have £2 million or more in an account for at least 2 years and must prove the legality of the funds.

- Passport.
- Marriage and birth certificates of children (if applicable).
- Bank statements confirming that you have funds in your account.
- A letter from the bank confirming that the money is in your possession.
- Proof of the source of the funds if they have been in the account for less than 2 years.
- TB test results.
- Health insurance.
- Certificate of no criminal record.
- Photographs that meet the requirements of the visa centre.
- Completed application form.
- Visa fee payment receipt.
- Documents confirming investment in the British economy (after obtaining a visa).
All documents must be translated into English and notarised.
UK residence permit renewal
Once your visa expires, you can apply and renew the UK residence permit for up to 2 years. After 2–5 years of residence on an investor visa, you can apply for a permanent residence permit, and after 5–6 years, you can apply for British citizenship.
