Latvia: Residence permit for investment in the economy

In Latvia, residence permit investment programme was launched in 2010 to attract foreign capital. Foreign nationals can obtain a residence permit by investing in the following areas:

  • Company share capital:
    • From €50,000 for companies with up to 50 employees and an annual turnover of up to €10 million.
    • From €100,000 for larger enterprises.

Investors must also make a one-time contribution:

Renewal of RP and application for permanent residence

Foreign nationals can renew their residence cards an unlimited number of times. The application for renewal must be submitted up to 90 days before or after its expiration. If submitted later, it will take approximately 40 days to process the documents and issue a new card. Therefore, to avoid being considered a new applicant, the application should be sent no later than 50 days after the RP expires.

Residing in the country for 5 years entitles foreign citizens to apply for the Latvia permanent residence permit, benefits of which include visa-free movement within the Schengen Area and access to social security. It is necessary not to leave the country for more than 6 consecutive months or more than one year in total.
