Who can obtain recidency for digital nomads in Hungary

The programme is open to CEOs/founders of companies or sole proprietorships that meet the following Hungary residence permit requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • citizenship of a non-EU or EEA country;
  • no criminal record;
  • monthly income of at least €3,000;
  • housing in the territory of the country, bought or rented;
  • employment with a company outside the EU.

Documents for applying for a residence permit for digital nomads in Hungary

The following documentation is required for programme participants:

  • application form filled in manually or electronically;
  • a passport valid for at least 12 months;
  • 2 photographs measuring 3.5 x 4.5 cm;
  • employment contract or documents with information about business activities outside the country;

  • a certificate of ownership of a residential property or a rental contract with a validity period of at least 12 months;

  • written confirmation of the possibility to work remotely;

The process of obtaining residency for digital nomads in Hungary

Preliminary analyses of personal and financial information help to identify potential reasons for refusal and address them in advance. In some cases, the participant is advised to collect additional documents or choose another residency scheme.

  • complete the application form;
  • collect originals and copies of all documents;
  • make a translation;
  • notarise the papers.

The foreigner must make an appointment at the consulate of the country. On the appointed date it is necessary to submit the documentation and biometric data.

Getting a visa and submitting papers for residency

First, the applicant will be issued a D visa for a period of 3 months, which will allow him to stay in the territory of the state for 30 days. This type of visa allows visiting the country to apply for long-term residency.
