Calibishie offers some of Dominica’s most dramatic beaches. A daily favourite for my family is Batibou, and No 1 beach where the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. The secluded cove with it’s yellow sand and azure waves.
Beyond the beach, the Island offers a wealth of sensory experiences you won’t find elsewhere. A trip to the Chaudiere pool in the pretty village of Bense is a natural wonder. A 25 minute hike through sprawling rainforest takes you to a sparkling waterfall flowing into a clear, blue pool. Dare devils can slide down a natural chute formation and the cliffs around allow for diving off into the water. Best of all there are hardly any people and nature puts on a show with exotic flora and fauna popping like jewels all around.
Bird lovers can get their beaks into Syndicate Parrot Reserve in Portsmouth, a thirty minute drive from Calibishie. Dominica is home to the indigenous type of parrot known as the Sisserou.
Spotting these magnificent creatures soaring through the air is a truly breath taking sight.
It’s the best place to get away from it all including the COVID 19 pandemic!
